For over 20 years Richard has practiced and tried cases in state district courts and all federal courts in Louisiana. As appellate counsel he has briefed and argued cases in Louisiana's Courts of Appeal, the Louisiana Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, appearing in writ practice there on a regular basis for over ten years on behalf of the State of Louisiana and its officials. In 1992 and 1993 Richard taught obligations and ethics course as an instructor at a college in southern Poland and in 2007 and 2008 he served the people of Louisiana as Administrator and General Counsel of the Louisiana Board of Ethics. His practice with the firm focuses on litigation in both state and Federal court.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Richard has a private pilot's license, and is an Assistant Bar Examiner grading the Federal Courts portion of the Louisiana Bar examination. Mr Sherburne has served as Trial Advocacy Instructor at Louisiana State University School of Law since 1999, has taught at the Louisiana Judicial College, and has taught several times at the Louisiana Department of Justice's annual CLE program. He has also served as a judge for the LSU and Southern University Law School trial moot court competitions.
